Protected by a mylar sheet. Deckled page edges. Interior is nearly as new with pages clean and unmarked. A small return address label of a former owner on the inside of the front cover. Muir met Mrs. Carr when he was a student at the University of Wisconsin. She was a botanist and ardent lover of nature who took him under her wing and became his ""spiritual mother."" She had a profound influence on the course of his life, helping to focus on the practical use of his passions and skills. Although Muir selected these letters for publication, the book was not published until 3 years after his death in 1912."
