"Signed by Gifford, number 100 of 100 of this limited edition. An association copy: Not marked, but Russell Chatham's copy. Chatham was the publisher of Clark City Press, so a nice association. He also did the illustration on page 4 and the cover painting on the trade edition. A collection of four stories from Gifford. Chatham was part of the so-called literary ""Montana Gang"" that also included Thomas McGuane, Richard Brautigan., and Jim Harrison, who used Chatham's paintings for the covers of each of his books starting with Legends of the Fall. Chatham was extraordinarily successful during the height of his career (his largest paintings sold for $1 million to celebrities), and his paintings remain iconic images of the Montana landscape and perhaps the Interior West at large. See also this great and wandering tribute from Rick Bassin Angler's Journal. Chatham was also a talented writer, best known for his iconic workThe Angler's Coast, and he was the publisher of Clark City Press, which published more than three dozen books including some of his own as well as books by Jim Harrison, Rick Bass, and others.A fine book in burgundy cloth in a marbled paper slipcase that's only good on account of a half-inch split at bottom edge near spine, otherwise only a few bumps."
